Sugar Pecan Recipe


A few years ago my mom started making sugar pecans. She basically coats pecans in sugar and cinnamon and bakes them, nothing fancy, but they taste delicious. This past year, my mom has been sending these pecans to people when they are going through a difficult time and need a little something sweet to make them smile. I want to continue this tradition and pass it down to my kids someday. That little acts of kindness in difficult times make a big difference and remind people that you love them and that you are thinking of them.

The recipe is simple and there are a hundred variations online, but this is the one my mom shared with me. Pecans aren't the only option, but they just happen to turn out the best!


1 egg white

1 tablespoon water

1 pound pecan halves

1 cup white sugar

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


1) Preheat the oven to 250

2) Grease a baking sheet with butter

3) Whip egg white and water until frothy (I use a medium bowl and a fork)

4) In a separate bowl, mix sugar, salt and cinnamon

5) Add pecans to egg white mixture and stir to coat evenly

6) Remove the pecans and toss them in the sugar mixture until coated

7) Spread nuts on baking sheet

8) Bake at 250 for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes
